Bureaucracy

“I was born in Chile, and when I was a baby my parents had to flee, you know, because of Pinochet. It was incredibly difficult for us to get into the US-”
Jason interrupted Gui at this point.
“Oh buddy. If you want stories about a difficult immigration process, let me tell you about moving here!”
Jason is a single, white, American man with a full time job in a big tech company. A company that sponsored his visa simply because he asked them to. A company that gave him a very generous relocation package. And he wanted to talk about how difficult it was to emigrate from New York to Dublin.
“Did you know you can’t open a bank account here until you have proof of address in the form of a utility bill? But I can’t get any utilities set up because I don’t have a bank statement! Man, it’s nuts”
“Um, okay, but it’s not like, a junta?” Gui’s wife laughed
“I dunno man, AIB staff feel like dictators to me.”
